Privacy policy

Mint Recently Viewed is a Shopify app made by Mint Labs ("we", "us"). It shows shoppers on a merchant's online store the products they recently viewed and, on the Pro plan, products other shoppers viewed together. This policy explains what the app handles, why, and when it's deleted. For anything about the merchant's visitors we act as a service provider (processor) to the merchant, who is the controller.

The short version

  • The app stores no customer data: no customer or order records, no shopper names, email addresses, phone numbers, IP addresses or browsing histories on our servers.
  • A shopper's recently viewed list is kept only in their own browser (product handle, product ID and when it was viewed). It never reaches us. It is kept between visits only when the shopper allowed preferences in the store's cookie banner (Shopify's Customer Privacy API); otherwise only until the browser tab is closed. Shoppers can clear it with the “Clear history” button.
  • Pro only, and only from shoppers who allowed analytics: their browser tells us which products were viewed shortly after one another (product IDs only), and when a row was shown or a product in it opened. We keep counts per pair of products and per day — nothing that identifies a shopper, session or device.
  • We never sell or share data, use it for advertising, or combine it across stores.

Information about shoppers

What happensDetailsKept
Recently viewed listIn the shopper's browser only (localStorage when preferences are allowed, otherwise sessionStorage). Product details are loaded from the store itself (Shopify), not from us.In the browser: the merchant's setting (7–90 days, default 30), or until the tab closes
Co-views (Pro, analytics allowed)A pair of product IDs is counted when a shopper views one product shortly after another; each product is reported at most once per browser session.Counts fade by 3% a day and are dropped when small
Row views and clicks (Pro, analytics allowed)Daily totals per row type (recently viewed / also viewed) and page type (product, cart, home, other).13 months
Rate limits on these reportsCounters keyed by a salted, daily-changing one-way hash of the visitor's IP address (never the address itself).Up to 1 day

Reports reach us through Shopify's app proxy. Shopify adds the store domain; the ID of a logged-in customer that Shopify may add is ignored and never stored.

Customer privacy requests

  • Access requests (customers/data_request) and erasure requests (customers/redact): the app holds no information about individual customers, so there is nothing to return or delete. The requests are acknowledged.
  • Store deletion (shop/redact, sent 48 hours after a merchant uninstalls): we permanently delete everything we hold for the store, including co-view counts, Insights and settings.

Where data is processed and how it's protected

The app runs on Cloudflare (hosting and database) and connects to Shopify's APIs. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is limited to Mint Labs staff who need it to provide support. We use no third-party analytics or trackers. See our security policy.

Retention

Settings, co-view counts and Insights are kept while the app is installed (Insights for 13 months). Access tokens are deleted as soon as the app is uninstalled, and everything else when Shopify sends the store deletion request 48 hours later. The “Customers also viewed” lists live in the store's own product data; Shopify removes the app's metafield definition when the app is uninstalled.

Your rights

Depending on where you are, you may have the right to access, correct or delete information about you. Shoppers can delete their recently viewed list at any time with “Clear history” or by clearing their browser's site data. Merchants can contact us directly; shoppers should contact the store, or email us and we'll help. We respond within 30 days.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, notify merchants in the app.
